    Professional Background

Valerie Murillo earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from Texas State University, where she developed a strong foundation in evidence-based therapeutic practices. • Introduction

Sarah dreamed of joining the helping profession since she was a young girl. Her passion to offer therapy services to individuals with eating disorders stems from her own experience with, and healing from, an eating disorder.

Sarah is a proud cat mom of three. She is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and has a passion for serving those in the community. A fun—and maybe unexpected fact—about Sarah is that she was adopted. Being adopted shaped Sarah’s perspective on development, identity, and culture. In her free time, Sarah enjoys reading, yoga, and running.

    Professional Background

Sarah earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degree in social work. She has worked in direct practice within the mental health field for the majority of her career.

    Areas of expertise

Restrictive eating disorders: Explore your sense of self beyond your eating disorder, and learn coping strategies to manage and reduce the effect your eating disorder holds

Self exploration and attunement: Engage in understanding and exploring your sense of self and how you navigate the world

Neurodivergence: Develop strategies to help you reach your milestones, and embrace your uniqueness

    Therapeutic Approach

Sarah uses an eclectic approach to help clients address and process concerns, and step into their sense of self. Sarah draws from somatic theories, DBT, and ACT.

    Personal Philosophy

Sarah believes that therapy is beneficial and improves overall wellness. She also acknowledges how the systems in place in our modern, capitalist society, are punitive and ultimately undermine wellness. Sarah holds space for clients to pursue inner peace within this larger context.
